Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Recently I was reading Tim Keller’s new book on prayer, and I was gripped by one paragraph. Where Keller wrote, “The only time in all the gospels that Jesus Christ prays to God and does not call him Father is on the cross, when he says, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Jesus lost his relationship with the Father so that we could have a relationship with God as Father. Jesus was forgotten so that we could be remembered forever.” Friend, I had to close the book, meditate on that thought alone, and then breathe a prayer of amazement and thanksgiving that I – I of all people – and you, too, should know God, all because God turned his back on Jesus, inasmuch saying, “You? I don’t know you.” Behold what manner of love the Father has given unto us, that we should be called sons of God.” Let that amazing truth sink in and then thank Jesus for his gift!
