Be pliable, be teachable. Bend and yield to the rock, Jesus Christ who gave his life for you.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. John Calvin is a theologian from the Middle Ages who once said, “If you strive and struggle with God, you will find him more obdurate than you.” Now there’s a word from the Middle Ages: obdurate. Just what does it mean? Well, pig-headed and stubborn for a start [you can see why the angel of the Lord won that wrestling match with Jacob, right?]! Deuteronomy 32 says of the Lord, “He is a rock and his ways are perfect.” And friend, a rock is about as stubborn as you can get! I should know. I have learned over the years that my whining and complaining, all my “God, I need you to see it my way!” All of my stubborn willfulness gets me absolutely nowhere. It’s because I was up against the Rock of Ages who wasn’t about to be manipulated. Don’t be obdurate. Be pliable, be teachable. Bend and yield to the rock, Jesus Christ who gave his life for you.
