God can sustain for your weary soul.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Some of the most beautiful hymns are written by hymn writers who have suffered much. Like Anne Steele. She lost her mother when she was young and at age 14, she began suffering from chronic malaria. All throughout her single life, Anne struggled with many health issues and was bedridden for 9 years before her death. During all this time, though, friends described her as cheerful and serene. You can tell that from these lines from one of her more famous hymns, “Dear refuge of my weary soul, On Thee when sorrows rise, On Thee, when waves of troubles roll, My fainting hope relies. To Thee I tell each rising grief, For Thou alone canst heal; Thy Word can bring a sweet relief for every pain I feel.” Oh friend, God gives us examples like Anne Steele to remind us that, yes, despite suffering, He can sustain. And that is so true for your weary soul, as well.
