What you choose for entertainment reflects your priorities. So, focus on what is true, noble, pure, and praiseworthy.

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And the way we entertain ourselves reveals everything about our priorities. Sadly though, what our hearts lean toward is often unhealthy. The extra candy bar, the gossip magazine, the violent movie. We think that entertainment means taking “time off;” ignoring the pressure of higher standards—and so, we don’t subject it to scrutiny. And that makes our entertainment choices potentially damaging. But Philippians 4 gives great advice when it comes to making choices, especially as it concerns entertainment. It says there: “Whatever is true, whatever is noble…and right…and pure…and lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” In other words, entertain yourself with such things. That’s something to remember this weekend when you head to the movies, pick up a book, or listen to music.
