Your life is like a wisp of smoke, but your response to your suffering has results that will remain forever.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and have you ever noticed how much Jesus focused on results? He always focused on the end of things – whether the end of a day’s labor, the end of the harvest, the end of one’s life, the end of the world – and he urged us to see that whatever we do here on earth has results in heaven. You see, the Lord had come from heaven, and he knew how wonderful it is. That’s why he could tell his followers facing horrible suffering to “Count it all joy.” Look, friend, the Bible describes our life like a wisp of smoke, anyway. The suffering will soon be over. But your response to your suffering – your trust, obedience, patience, and long-suffering – that will have results that’ll remain forever and ever. And, friend, that should result in a smile on your face today. Because all the heartache and disappointment, all the hardship of the day’s labor will have a heavenly result.
