Suffering comes only to make your soul great.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And do you ever get angry at God? You know how it is; things are going at a pretty good clip when, bam, all of a sudden you get hit broadside with a huge disappointment or hardship. And you think, okay, God is sovereign, so he must’ve had something to do with what went wrong. And then we get angry at him. But anger at God is almost always sinful – it’s usually a muddle of malice and mistrust about who we think he is. But God has not let you down. Oh, sure, people may betray you. The devil may torment you. But God neither betrays nor torments. Never ever is God out to harm you. He seeks only your good. God removed the only kind of suffering that can ever really harm us; and that is, separation from him. This means that now, all suffering comes only to make your soul great; and to teach you how to learn to bend to his will. And you sure can’t get angry about that!
