Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. When our Wheels for the World teams travel to fit wheelchairs to people with disabilities, we meet the most adorable children – like 6-year-old Herman with cerebral palsy. We met Herman on an outreach into Africa and we were quick to fit this little boy with a pediatric wheelchair but when our physical therapist examined Herman’s legs and hips, she realized that – oh my goodness –if this little boy had a walker with a proper support system, he would be able to walk! Lo and behold: we modified a child sized walker and with a little help, Herman took his first steps! You should have seen the smile on his face – and on his mother’s, too!
