Christ is your shelter when you are in the desert.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and my friend, Tawana, is a quadriplegic and is battling breast cancer. She’s also been in a wheelchair almost as long as I have, over 40 years – we’ve got a lot in common. Chemotherapy for her has been hard, what with her tendency to get infections. But Tawana wrote to tell me how much Deuteronomy 8 has inspired her. It says, “Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and totestyou in order to know what was in your heart.” I agree with Tawana, all the way in the desert these 40 years of quadriplegia and more. We agree that our trials have not been without purpose. They’ve humbled us and helped us see what our hearts are made of. And we wouldn’t change it for anything. So, think about what’s in your heart. I trust it’s “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” After all, he’s your shelter when you are in the desert for many years.
