When dark, anxious thoughts threaten your peace, you can trust the ever-watchful Good Shepherd to guard you and bring you calm.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And Ken and I live up against the dry California mountains where there are lots of coyotes. At night, it’ll send shivers up your spine to hear them howling in a pack, racing after their prey. We never hear them howl in the daytime, only when darkness falls. Habakkuk 1:8 describes an invading army that is “fiercer than wolves at dusk.” And you know, we face our own evening wolves, don’t we? It’s often an army of dark, anxious thoughts that tear and devour all suggestions of comfort and calm. At such times, remember that your Good Shepherd is standing guard. He never sleeps. And even in the dark, he bids his sheep to lie down in green pastures, undisturbed by worries and fears. He is the only one who can slay fierce wolves that crawl out from hiding when darkness falls. So, trust the Shepherd. He has never faced a wolf – a dark, foreboding thought – he hasn’t slain.
