Today, consider your menial and tedious tasks as service to Christ, so then, you will discover the joy of being a lowly and humble “doorkeeper in the house of God.”
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Pam is a newborn Christian who resides in a residential center for girls who’ve left behind prostitution and drug-dealing on the streets of Hollywood. With great enthusiasm, she explained to me her role at the home. She said, “Joni, I scrub the toilets and I take care of all the bathrooms! That’s my job and I love it!” I couldn’t believe it. I mean, she was so grateful to have structure in her life, safety in her surroundings, needful things to do, and an honest-to-goodness humble job serving Jesus. I thought of Psalm 84, where it says, “For a day in Thy courts, O God, is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of the wicked.” Today, consider your menial and tedious tasks as service to Christ, for then, you will discover the joy of being a lowly and humble “doorkeeper in the house of God.”
