Learn the importance of praying from experience and with authority.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Christians who have firsthand experience with a problem are usually the best ones to pray about it. Recently I was with a few friends and wanted to ask them to pray for my sister who is struggling with back pain. Now, I knew that Janice recently had back surgery, and she’s kept a bright outlook through it all. So, I turned to her and I said with a smile, “Janice you are the best one among us to pray for my sister. You have authority to pray about pain.” Second Corinthians 1 says that “If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation.” Janice has gone through a great deal of distress, recovering from her back surgery, but it is all for the comfort and encouragement of my sister.
