When you pray for someone’s illness; that is, their physical need, always include at least one of their “spiritual needs.” A spiritual perspective can really impact your prayer life.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And sometimes, we Christians focus so much on the physical when we go to God in prayer. If a friend receives a medical report and they’ve got a bad disease, then we storm heaven’s gates to see them cured, healed, and restored. “Make them like they were before, Lord!” Well, suppose God doesn’t them want to let them go back to the person they were before. Perhaps he wants to transform their life into something new; like, well, conforming them more like Jesus. So, in praying, here’s a suggestion – when you pray for someone’s illness; that is, their physical need, always include at least one of their “spiritual needs.” Like their need to be patient, or focus more on eternal things, or their need to let go of fear. In doing so you’ll begin to see physical infirmities the way God does, realizing that sometimes he does heal, and many other times, for wise and holy reasons, he doesn’t. A spiritual perspective can really impact your prayer life.
