Inquire of the Lord

Episode Summary

Do not cruise on your faith, assuming that you can overcome anything thrown at you – always inquire of the Lord.

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and, oh, do we get into big trouble when we start cruising on our faith. You know how it is: you’ve seen the way that God works; you’re familiar with his ways; and so you stop consulting him. You feel there’s really no need to inquire of the Lord on certain matters and decisions that are familiar. But doing that, it ruins your faith. Like when Joshua was subduing God’s enemies in the Promised Land. There were these men from Gibeon who came to Joshua dressed in tattered clothes, saying they had come from a far land: “Oh, please make a treaty with us; don’t kill us.” Actually, they were next-door neighbors. And Joshua believed them and thought it not necessary to inquire of the Lord. From then on out, he had nothing but trouble. Friend, don’t let it happen to you. Do not cruise, but always inquire of the Lord. If you come up against powerful enemies in your land, oh, listen: don’t cruise. Don’t take it for granted that you can overcome it. Always inquire of the Lord.
