A Moment with Joni Eareckson Tada

Irreplaceable Fellowship

Episode Summary

In a world that praises busyness, don’t forget that true strength and service come from constant communion with Jesus. Never let frantic work drown out the quiet power of sitting at his feet.

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Luke 10:40 tells a fascinating story about Jesus’s visit to the home of Mary and Martha. Mary sat at Jesus’s feet, soaking in his teaching. “But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made.” Now, Martha cannot be faulted for serving – even for “much serving” as some translations say. Who wouldn’t want to serve Jesus with every ounce of energy?! Her fault though, was that she was so busy, she forgot the Lord and only remembered her service. She allowed it to override communion with Christ. But you know, I think we can be both Martha and Mary in one, doing much service and having much communion at the same time. It takes great grace to do that [for it is so much easier to serve than to commune, right?]. So, please, for your soul’s health and for your own usefulness, keep yourself in constant communion with your Savior. Because nothing replaces fellowship with Jesus.
