If you live well, God will never fail to give the favor of his nearness and sweetness.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and I've lived long enough in this wheelchair to know that sometimes our idea of "good" falls far short of the real definition. You know how Psalm 84 says that the Lord will never withhold good from anyone whose walk is blameless? Well, I used to claim Psalm 84 for healing. After all, walking is a good thing. So is using my hands. Why in the world would God withhold such things from me, a nice [and somewhat obedient] quadriplegic? Good question. But God's got his eye on something deeper than walking feet. And now, decades later, I understand that if I live well, God will not withhold peace. He will not deny me faith or courage or grace when I come to him in need. He’ll not withhold opportunities to sow his seed or shine his light. Best of all, he will not fail to give the favor of his nearness and sweetness. And that beats walking any day.
