Satan can entrap you by appearing to offer you genuine pleasure but it’s a lie. Remember, your adversary is an expert at deception.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And recently, my friend was at an exhibit that featured all kinds of specialized lures for fly-fishing; the exhibit was called, “The Art of Deception.” It was a fascinating title, so she snapped a photo of it on the banner so I could show my husband Ken who [as we all know] is an expert fly fisherman. Because how does one fly-cast for a fish? Well, it’s the art of deception. Ken creates a lure that most closely resembles a real bug, or grasshopper, or insect – the more life-like the copy, the better the chance of fooling a smart fish! And how does Satan entrap us? The same way. He entices us with endless copies of God's true gifts, and he lures us with temptations that appear to offer genuine pleasure. But it's a lie! Your adversary is an expert at deception, looking to snag you into sin if he can. And that’s just my little spiritual, fly-fishing lesson for you today.
