Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And my friend Cindi is a wife, a mom, she works a full-time job—and Cindi cares for her elderly mother with Alzheimer’s disease. But listen to what she says: “Joni, I have a caregiver for my mother during the day, but at night and on the weekends, it is my privilege to care for her, even at times when she is combative and hostile.” How can Cindi see helping her mom as a privilege and not a burden? By remembering 1 Samuel 12 that says, “Serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you.” When Cindi considers all that the Lord—and her mother—have done for her, despite her stubbornness and sin, Cindi can joyfully serve her mom. So, friend, if you are the caregiver of someone with dementia, try to look at it as a privilege. And if you need a word of encouragement, come to our website at joniandfriends.org.
