You can offer a friend in a wheelchair a smile with a bouquet of flowers, a hot cup of coffee—and maybe even a colorful “joy ride.” Practice some hospitality today!
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and sometimes just thinking about visiting someone’s home for the first time can make me so nervous; I wonder, “have they made a way for my wheelchair?” It’s why I just gotta share how my little friend Angela and her neighbor ‘welcomed’ me to their home; they used a sidewalk chalk to color a ‘path’ all the way to the back door! They called it, “Joni’s Joy Ride.” Talk about making a way; it was so fun wheeling over their artwork which led to a ramp at the back door. So, let me ask: How would youwelcome a wheelchair user into your home? Romans 12 says we must “seek to show hospitability”—especially to those in need. You may not have a ramp or extra wide bathroom doors, but you can offer a friend in a wheelchair a smile with a bouquet of flowers, a hot cup of coffee—and hey, maybe even a colorful “joy ride.” It’s all called hospitality!
