If you keep God’s Word close to your heart, it’ll only improve your life for the better.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And growing up Reformed Episcopalian, I obediently memorized the liturgy even though the words sounded old and dusty. Back then I did not realize the value of memorizing prayers for catechism class. I didn't appreciate the treasure of psalms and Bible verses I was storing up. But years later, the riches that I had hidden away in my heart as a child paid a marvelous dividend. During dark and lonely nights in the hospital, chunks and pieces of long-ago psalms and prayers floated to the surface of my memory. I could almost see page fourteen of the Book of Common Prayer! And the impact of memorizing those words? Psalm 119 says, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” So, friend, keep God’s Word close to your heart. Your self-control, and your patience, and compassion will be reinforced; plus, you’ll sin less, and you’ll grow closer to his heart.
