Next time you sit with your doctor, remember to give them a smile and words of encouragement. Doctors and nurses need some grace too.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And we all need encouragement, especially those of us who struggle with health problems. But what about the doctors and nurses who treat our problems? They are the professionals who deal with one health issue after the next; what about encouragement for them? Recently we met a medical doctor who specializes in treating patients with physical disabilities. He confessed that after many years of practice, he’s to the point he just can’t take it anymore. Mainly, because his patients are so bitter and often respond to him in anger and frustration. He’s thinking of quitting. Oh friend, Proverbs 22 says, “Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” And our doctors and nurses? They need some grace; they need words of encouragement. So, the next time you sit with your doctor, remember to smile, be patient, and share a word of healing.
