When you push through your pain and worship God in suffering, you inspire others who watch you!
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and sometimes in Sunday morning service, I like it when Ken and I sit in the back. As we sing hymns and worship songs, and as we responsively read God’s Word – all of it worship – I watch the older people in our congregation: people who are standing, leaning on their walkers or crutches. Somehow, I think their worship touches the Lord in a special way, ’cause, well, for them, it’s not easy; just standing requires extra effort, and it’s probably very painful. And for this reason, these older people inspire me. They remind me of Jacob with his bad hip. In Hebrews 11:21 it says that “when he was old and dying [he]… bowed in worship as he [get this] leaned on his staff.” Wow. To push through pain and then go ahead and worship God, if you can do that, believe me, friend, you are in a league with Jacob from the Bible.
