When you read the Bible, set aside what you think it should be saying and simply let God’s Word speak to you.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Why do we get bored with paintings we hang on our walls? I mean, we buy them because there’s something about them we prefer – the colors, the texture. But after a few weeks, we forget it’s there. Problem is, so often we buy a work of art based on our surface likes and dislikes; not what the painting has to say to us, what it means. And it’s like that with Scripture. So many come to God’s Word looking for what we want to hear, and if we come across a portion of Scripture that we don’t like, or understand, or agree with, then our reading becomes, well, boring. So you begin to read less often until, come Sunday morning, you can’t even find your Bible! Friend, you need to set aside your preferences, your agenda about what you think the Bible should be saying, and let God’s Word speak to you. So get your ideas out of the way, and the Bible, it’ll speak volumes.
