A Moment with Joni Eareckson Tada

Lift Your Eyes

Episode Summary

When you feel crushed and overwhelmed, your rescue isn’t as far as you think. It may be as simple and near as just lifting your eyes to Jesus.

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. My friend, Diana suffers from intractable pain. She told me, “Joni, sometimes I do not have the strength to even lift my head; it is that painful!” Often, I feel the same way when I feel discouraged and besieged by pain and quadriplegia. I can feel like my face is flat, squished on the floor. But like I told Diana, I have drawn encouragement from a story in Numbers 21. In the desert, God’s people were in big trouble. But the Lord told them that if they would but just look at the bronze serpent Moses had fastened to a pole; their rescue would be assured. Just look; just lift your eyes. Sometimes salvation is as close as looking up. For Jesus said in John 3, “Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.” If you feel overwhelmed today, lift your eyes; just look up, look to Jesus.
