Live Out the Song

Episode Summary

Even in the midst of pain, God plants songs in your heart that you can sing in his strength.

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And when I am in pain, I listen to others who have survived it well. Like Amy Carmichael, the missionary to India who rescued hundreds of little girls from temple prostitution – midway through her ministry, she suffered a terrible fall and became bedridden. In one of her letters to a friend; Amy wrote, “A Day or two ago when everything was feeling more than impossible, I opened to Psalm 40. It says, ‘He has put a new song in my mouth, even praise.’ Oh, how like our Lord it is to ‘put’ it there. In our pain, we could not find it for ourselves, so he puts it. And when he puts it, we can sing it.” Whether his song lyrics are “trust in me,” or “rest in me,” or “wait on me,” it is a melody you can sing in his strength. So, when your enemy comes like a flood, see it as a time to prove your faith in Christ and live out the song God puts in your heart.
