Look inward at your heart, outward at your character, and then look back to see if there’s change.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And someone once asked me, “Joni, how do I know I’m saved?” Well, that’s a good question [and you’ve probably wondered the same]. If so, here’s a simple test. First, ask yourself: Can I look in my heart and see there if there is a love for Jesus Christ? Because friend, if you’re a child of God, there ought to be loving emotions for him. Second, ask: Do I see evidence of my love for Jesus? You see the Gospel of John says every good tree ought to be bearing fruit. You should see traces of patience, perseverance and self-control. And lastly, ask: Am I able to see growth since I first professed Christ? You see, as a true believer, you may be only five percent sanctified, but that’s more sanctified than you were yesterday. Friend, God wants to give you assurance of your salvation, so look inward at your heart, look outward at your character, then look back to see if there’s change.
