Fiery troubles will come, but with the love of God; and the love of friends and family, you can make it through.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. At the age of 19, Brian was on top of the world. He had a good job working at a tree farm in Oregon, and he was engaged to 18-year-old Haley. But in 1995, a fiery explosion left him battling for life and limb—Brian lost his arms, part of his leg, and suffered burns over 97% of his body. What’s more, later on, Brian lost his vision. But Haley remained constantly at his side, reflecting what the Song of Solomon 8 says, that, “Love is as strong as death.” In time, the two married and now, 16 years later, this happy couple has three beautiful children. Brian is active in disability ministry; in fact, he’ll even be serving as camp pastor this summer at one of our Joni and Friends Family Retreats. Friend, fiery troubles will come [as 1 Peter says], but with the love of God—and the love of friends and family—you can make it through.
