At the cross, love for Jesus comes alive and preferences for sin begin to die. Meditate on the love that Jesus showed you on the cross today.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and, you know, I grieve when I look back on times that I preferred my sin – my selfish ways, my fantasies, worldly inclinations – I preferred all of it instead of Jesus Christ. Back then, I felt as though Jesus were demanding too much – you know, “Be holy as I am holy.” So, no wonder my heart wasn’t devoted to him or overflowing with love for him. But the Puritan Thomas Watson said that until sin is bitter, Christ will not be sweet. And over the years, I’ve found that to be true. Sin only became awful and distasteful to me when I finally cultivated a deep love for Jesus. Hey, I’ve got a long way to go when it comes to despising sin, but it’s why I meditate on the love that Jesus showed me at the cross. Because at the cross, love for Jesus comes alive and preferences for sin begin to die. Hallelujah!
