Keep your heart pure, spirit bright, and conscience clean – you’ll always feel the nearness of the Holy Spirit.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And recently I committed a stubborn, willful sin – I won’t go into the details here, but I knew what I was doing when I did it. And for several days afterward, I felt the distinct withdrawal of the Holy Spirit’s power in my life. And it was awful! It wasn’t until I cried out to God while reading Psalm 51, “[O Lord,] take not your Holy Spirit from me” that I sensed his nearness and approval again. And for me, it was quite a lesson! And I want you to join me in asking God to keep us from disobeying when the shorter, easier route is tempting. Keep us in our youth when our passions are strong; keep us in old age when we think we know it all; keep us in the valley when we’re prone to complain. Today, please, keep your heart pure, your spirit bright, and your conscience clean. Because no sin, no transgression is worth risking the nearness of the Holy Spirit.
