Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Luke is a teenager with lots of special needs, autism being at the root of it all. When his mother, Lorraine, takes Luke out in public, she’s always tense, always nervous. What if Luke has a meltdown at the grocery store? What if something sets him off at the restaurant and he goes ballistic? Lorraine constantly worries that her son might do or say something not only inappropriate, but harmful. Well, all that changed when Lorraine brought Luke and her daughter Natalie to Family Retreat. Before the first day was over, Natalie said the obvious, “Mom, we do not have to be stressed here.” Lorraine could not get over how our volunteers cared for her son and served with such joy.
