When hardships feel endless, remember you can stand unburned—shining as a living example of God’s miraculous grace.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, asking, do you ever feel like your hardships are never-ending? It’s like no sooner do you start walking through an arduous trial, than you get hit yet by another problem. If so, let me share with you this comforting, 18th-century quote from John Newton. He said, “Some Christians are called to endure a disproportionate amount of suffering. They are a spectacle of grace to the church, like flaming bushes unconsumed, and they cause us to ask, like Moses: ‘Why is this bush not burned up?’ The strength and stability of these believers can only be explained by the miracle of God’s sustaining grace.” What a great quote. So today, friend, if you feel overwhelmed by trials consider yourself a bush not burned up. It’ll inspire and encourage everyone around you who watches you take hold of the grace of God.
