A Moment with Joni Eareckson Tada

Not Convenient

Episode Summary

Serving is never an interruption because you’re serving not only people; you are serving Jesus.

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And whenever I read about the crucifixion, I always stop and imagine the scene of Mark 15, when Jesus is carrying his cross. It says that a man named Simon was on his way in from the country, when Roman soldiers stopped him and forced him to carry the cross of Jesus. Just imagine the relief Jesus must have felt—after having helped so many others in so many ways, finally here was a man to help him when he really needed it! So, let me ask you: Do you know someone who is carrying a load that is too heavy? Maybe your grandfather who is recovering from a heart attack or your neighbor who is a single mother of three kids. Helping may not always be “convenient”—your plans, like those of Simon, may be interrupted and you may feel pressed upon even put-upon—but Ephesians 6 reminds us that serving others is never an interruption. After all, you’re serving not only people; you are serving Jesus.
