If you continue to run this race and trust the Lord throughout obstacles, some day you will receive a crown that lasts forever.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and my father was quite an athlete – he was an alternate on the U.S. wrestling team in the 1932 Olympics. And even when he was older, I remember as a kid, going to the YMCA with Daddy and watching him from the sidelines as he’d work out, lift weights, and wrestle his friends. My father was in great shape all his life because he trained hard. When I look back on the life of my dad, I think, oh my goodness, that we would train ourselves in godliness like that! 1 Corinthians 9 says, "Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever." Yep, we sure do want that forever-crown. And you know what? If you and I continue to run this race, if we continue to trust in the Lord, despite the obstacles that come our way, some day that grand prize is going to be ours.
