God will never give up on you, so please—do not give up on him.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. When I broke my neck many years ago, there were friends from high school who had heard about my accident and, well, they just wanted to visit and hang out with me in the hospital. Theirs was a noble gesture, but I would just sit there, ignoring them. And eventually? A lot of these friends stopped coming around—and who could blame them? Sometimes we act that way with God. We almost want to push to see just how far his love will really go. But God isn’t like a friend who, when ignored, gives up on us. True, the Lord may discipline us for our careless and rebellious behavior, but in Isaiah 49, he says: “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion…? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.” Oh friend, God will never give up on you, so please—do not give up on him.
