In Christ, all people, disabled or not, form one great family.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and a special needs mother once described to me one Christmas when her disabled son sat in Santa’s lap. Nothing unusual about that, except that her son is fifteen years old and five foot nine! But he really, really wanted to talk to Santa – so who was she to resist? It brought a few stares from some other mothers waiting in line with their small children, but that mom stood there watching her teenage disabled son have the time of his life with Santa – she also stood there, wishing other mothers could understand. Yep, understanding – it’s a big need when you are the parent of a special needs child, no matter what the age. Friend, you may be like this mother – trying to find a place to belong because your family has a disability. Well, if so, we want to be of help. Visit joniandfriends.org to find one of our offices near you, and remember, in Christ, all people – disabled or not – form one great family.
