Today, draw near, draw, close, and know your Savior so you can become one in spirit.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And I grew up reading the King James Version of the Bible. As a kid, I never understood what the Bible meant when it talked of Adam who “knew” Eve or Abraham who “knew” Sarah. Later, I learned that the Old Testament usage of the phrase to “know” meant physical intimacy between a couple. But the New Testament references this as well. In Philippians 3, Paul says: “I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings.”Now,Paul’s not describing a physical intimacy; he’s describing a spiritual intimacy. Not a physical union; but a spiritual one. Not as in ‘the two shall become one flesh,’ but the two shall become one in spirit. You and Jesus! This is what 1 Peter 1 means when it says that we participate in the divine nature. So today, draw near, draw close, and know your Savior.
