Episode Transcription

Hi, I'm Joni Eareckson Tada. And one day while making a purchase, I asked the clerk to get money out of my purse [remember, my hands are paralyzed, so I need help with things like counting money]. As he was counting out the change, all of a sudden, a little girl darted up and – clink! Dropped a penny into my purse. I guess the child saw the clerk rummaging through my wallet and thought I didn’t have enough money. Now, I could have told her to keep her penny; that I didn’t need it. But instead, I smiled and thanked her for caring about my needs – it was just a way of acknowledging her Christ-like compassion. Proverbs 18 says, “A gift opens the way for the giver and ushers him into the presence of the great.” That day, a penny opened the way for a young girl to learn about the greatness of God's compassion. So, please encourage the boys and girls in your life to show compassion towards others as well.
