A Moment with Joni Eareckson Tada

Only Desire

Episode Summary

When you truly delight in the Lord, he becomes the deepest desire of your heart, turning obedience into joy and your faith into a loving relationship – not a burden.

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord and he’ll give you the desires of your heart.” You know, often, we only see the first half of that verse as a means to getting our hearts’ desires: delight in God and you will get. Get a new husband, get a new job, a new apartment. The truth is, when we delight ourselves in the Lord, he becomes the desire – the only desire of our heart. The Christian who takes pleasure in God does not love him out of compulsion. He does not feel fettered by his faith, driven to duty, or dragged into right-living. Such a Christian doesn’t think, “How close can I get to wrong-doing without it entrapping me? How close can I edge to sinning without it tainting me?” Rather, when we love God with all our heart, every obedience is a pleasure. Christianity is not religion. It is always a delightful relationship with your Savior, Jesus.
