Episode Summary

Great sometimes means doing something very ordinary but in a noteworthy way.

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and often I run into young people who want to do big things for God. They’re looking for the big impact, the next life-changing, heart-gripping, soul stirring ministry that’ll rock their world and everyone else’s. I don’t blame them. It’s exciting to want to pursue a big vision. But I like what Oswald Chambers once said, “the greatest hindrance in spiritual life is that we look for big things to do. But Jesus…took a towel and began to wash the disciples’ feet.” Wow! You know sometimes it is the menial service, the lowly and tedious tasks that honor the Lord the most. Routine acts of service force us to live in the domain of drudgery by the power of God. And those lowly acts of service also foster a lot of humility. That’s good news for anyone, young or old, who wants to do something great for God. Because great sometimes means doing something very ordinary in a significant way.
