Be like Romans 12 and find a way to honor your friend above yourself. Show them real brotherly or sisterly affection today.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and friendships formed at Family Retreat often last a lifetime. I’m thinking of Jacob, a Family Retreat volunteer who was assigned to Miller, who has Down syndrome. For years, Jacob has served Miller at our camps, but this year? When Jacob walked down the aisle to marry his fiancé, he invited Miller to be one of his groomsmen. Jacob wanted to show Miller that he is more than just a buddy at Family Retreat— he considers Miller as part of the family. And you can imagine, Miller was overjoyed to be a part of his friend’s wedding! Romans 12 encourages us to “Love one another with brotherly affection … to honor one another above ourselves.” No doubt, your friendships mean a great deal to you but today, find a way to honor your friend above yourself; show him real brotherly affection, because it’s the Romans 12 thing to do.
