Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And my husband Ken and I are World War I history buffs [Ken was a high school history teacher before he retired]. Well, there is one story we have always been fascinated with. In 1914 right before Christmas, it is reported that the German and British soldiers had a cease fire along the front lines; they even crossed trenches to exchange Christmas greetings. They gave each other gifts and souvenirs – and in a few places along the western front, German and British soldiers even played football. Once when I visited the Imperial War Museum in London, I read actual letters written by soldiers giving first-hand testimony of this amazing event. You know when Jesus was born, the angel announced, “Peace on earth, goodwill toward men!” So, in the midst of wars and disputes worldwide, join me in praying that one day soon, the peace of Christ will be evident everywhere on earth!
