Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Katie uses a wheelchair and she traveled with us to Uganda as one of our Joni and Friends interns. As a two-time US Power Soccer World Cup Athlete, her dream was to introduce “power soccer” [that is, soccer played with power wheelchairs] she wanted to introduce this to children with disabilities in Africa. But power wheelchairs just aren’t seen in countries like Uganda. So with some creativity, Katie and the interns outfitted manual wheelchairs with a lot of duct tape and stiff, cardboard boxes, they started a wheelchair soccer clinic that way. It was the first honest-to-goodness game these disabled kids had ever played! They now are a part of something. As John 6:37 says, “Whoever comes to Jesus, he will never be cast out.” Katie gave inclusion a new and exciting definition. How will you make a difference?
