Episode Summary

Don’t forget the gory yet precious sight of the cross because Jesus paid an awful, yet beautiful price for you.

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And whenever I study the Bible, I always like to keep a commentary at hand—especially when I read through passages about the construction of the Tabernacle. The drawings in the commentary make the Brazen Altar in the book of Exodus look so neat and tidy, but my husband, Ken, and I remarked that the altar [and the steps leading up to it], it must have been quite literally, a bloody mess. After all, the blood of sacrificial animals was poured on the horns of the altar, as well as around its base. And I’m sure the priests couldn’t help but get blood all over themselves and their garments. That sounds awful, but remember, it’s a sacrificial altar. And you know what? All that blood was a foreshadowing of the final sacrificial altar: Jesus on the cross at Calvary. So, let’s not forget the gory yet precious sight of the cross. Because Jesus paid an awful yet an oh so beautiful price for you and me.
