Today, put pride behind you and leave all human misery behind.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. I remember when I was sent home from the hospital as a quadriplegic, I just wanted to stay in the house. I hated the idea of going out in public and having people stare at my wheelchair. Occasionally when my family and I would go to a restaurant? I pretended I wasn’t hungry. I did not want someone feeding me. I despised looking so helpless. Needless to say, I was miserable. Years later, I realized that pride was the root of my misery. It was my pride that made me feel embarrassed about being fed. But Proverbs 8 says God hates pride. He knows it’s the path to human misery. I knew things had to change. And so I confessed my pride, took a step of faith, and went to a restaurant with friends for a hamburger. They fed me and I survived. All because I put pride behind me. And today, if pride is an issue for you, maybe you can do the same.
