A Moment with Joni Eareckson Tada

Rattle Snakes!

Episode Summary

The devil may be your enemy, but in Jesus, the enemy is powerless.

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And back when Randy worked as a volunteer fireman, he and his captain came across a big rattlesnake in the road. The fire captain grabbed a shovel, and with a hard swing, cut off the snake’s head. But here’s the thing: the body of the snake kept writhing all over the place, twitching and jumping! As Randy reached for it to discard it, he had to keep telling himself not to be afraid. The snake was dead. There were no fangs. It had lost its power to hurt him. Now this story should encourage any Christian, because it illustrates how the devil will often fool us into thinking that he’s got real power over us; power to sink his fangs into us. But Genesis 3 tells us that the Lord has crushed the head of the serpent; he did so at the cross. Satan doesn’t rule your life, friend [unless you let him]. So don’t fear, the devil may be your enemy, but in Jesus, that enemy is powerless.
