Love the Lord your God with all your heart – because that’s the only pathway to real happiness.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And you’ve probably heard it said that humans, by nature, are worshipers. We are always looking for someone or something to fulfill our longing for happiness. And if we think we’ve found it, we give it – a boyfriend, a hobby, the work you do – we give it all our waking affections. We end up worshiping – we end up idolizing that person or thing; it occupies our attention, day and night. Oh, my goodness, John Calvin was right when he said that our hearts are idol factories. We are constantly manufacturing idols in order to find happiness. But do idols satisfy? The Bible says no. and it’s why God warns that he will not tolerate any other god before us. That command speaks not only to God’s glory; but actually, what is good for us. So, take a minute and think, who or what consumes most of your affections? Love the Lord your God with all your heart – because that’s the only pathway to real happiness.
