When you respond in anger, you’re not trusting God’s sovereignty, so refrain from getting angry today. Nothing about it will bring you any good.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Have you ever been boiling mad? It’s an expression we often use to depict times when we feel like we’re filled with anger, and we just have to explode. As if it’s something we just need to release to just “blow off steam.” In fact, some counselors instruct you to just grab a baseball bat and wallop a pillow and you’ll feel better. But the truth is: you won’t be better for it. That’s because anger is a moral act. It’s not a thing inside of you waiting to be released; it’s an expression of you when you allow sin to have its way [or when someone else’s sin offends you]. And it’s why Psalm 37 says, “Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil.” You see, the problem with when we respond in anger, we aren’t trusting in God’s sovereignty or in his work in us. So, please refrain from anger today. Because nothing, nothing about it will bring you good.
