Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And what a privilege it is to go before the God of the universe in prayer. But how should we present ourselves in prayer? I love what Abraham said in Genesis 18, he said: “I have ventured to speak to the Lord, although I am but dust and ashes.” Wow! Now that’s the attitude to have in prayer! For Abraham, it was unthinkable to actually talk to God! What man had ever talked to God and lived?! But from Abraham we learn that humility before God Almighty is the key to a truly spiritual prayer. Spiritual prayers are all about praying to someone who is real, who is beyond our words. So, let me ask you, how long has it been since you felt the dust and ashes when you pray? If talking to God doesn’t strike you as being one of the most profound privileges imaginable, then perhaps Genesis 18 is a good place to refresh your prayer life.
