Saying a simple prayer over your meal can help you remember just how richly God provides.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. You know, my husband Ken and I have made it a habit to pray a blessing over our dinner. It usually goes something like this: “Jesus, we are keenly aware that most of the world would give anything to eat a meal like this. So, we pray for others that they might eat, and we thank you that we can.” That prayer is taken from the book of Deuteronomy 8, where the Lord said to the people of Israel: “When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you.” Oh friend, God had provided much for His people: plenty of food, clothing that never wore out, good land. But they were not always grateful—and it was in their ingratitude that got them into trouble. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to forget all that the Lord has provided for me. So today, remember God’s provision—perhaps even the next time you sit down for dinner.
