Sometimes, the one you need is standing right in front of your face.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. The Pool of Bethesda was a place where people waited. And they waited! People with disabilities and diseases would crawl or be carried there every day, hoping to be healed in the waters. One paralyzed man had been lying there for 38 years. When Jesus asked if he wanted to get well, the man responded, “Sir, I have no one to help me into the pool. When I’m trying to get in, someone else goes ahead of me.” Funny how this man’s longing was fixed on a particular answer – his answer – someone who would carry him into the water. But the one he really needed was standing right in front of him, Jesus the healer. And that’s a great reminder: When things look especially hopeless, please remember the one who stands between you and your need – the very one who will make you whole. Today, say with the Psalmist, “Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you.”
