Hear Joni explain what God’s idea of good is.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. When I was first injured, I wanted desperately to be healed. I read in Psalm 84:11 that “no good thing will the Lord withhold from those who walk uprightly.” The way I looked at it, walking was a good thing. Surely God would agree! Over the years, though, I realized that God’s idea of good doesn’t always focus on the physical; He is more interested in things like patience, courage, endurance, perseverance – that is His idea of good. And now, so many years later, I’m so grateful for those qualities in my life. There’s a poem that goes, “When God wants to drill a man to play the noblest part, when he yearns with all his heart to create so great and bold a man that all the world should be amazed, watch his methods, watch his ways: he will ruthlessly perfect those whom he royally elects.” Yep, that is God’s idea of good.
